If I were

Shadreck Jonasi

Member of Parliament for Lilongwe City Centre, I would not stand up and suggest that some secondary schools should be closed and students be relocated so that the schools can be turned into prisons for the supposed large number of people who might be convicted in the Capital Hill cash-gate.

If I were Hon. Jonasi, I would realise that while the looting of government resources cannot be condoned, the emergency session is a serious issue and therefore, as an MP, I should be more serious in my contributions on the issue at hand.

How I wish I were bwana Jonasi, because I would realise that there is already a shortage of schools in the country and to suggest the closure of secondary schools just to accommodate prospective convicts from the Capital Hill scam, defies all logic.

I would appreciate that what I did was tantamount to trivialising the debate and the importance of education in the country.

If only I were my good man Jonasi, I would realise that what I said was recorded in the Hansard and one wonders how it will benefit the serious issue under discussion.

If anything, I would seriously consider applying to MBC TV to consider featuring me in their comedy club programme that is aired on Saturday because that is where my thoughts would be suitable.

That is if only I were Jonasi. Fortunately, I am not the comedian disguised as MP for Lilongwe City Centre.
